Apple released today an update to its line of editing software, FCPX, Compressor and Motion. Now to be honest I don't use Motion at all and have only tried it a view times. You can check out the full change log to FCPX HERE but I am going to focus on the features that I am excited about in this article.
The one change that has me giddy is this one, multiple windows for color grading, I know this is something that is already baked into other editing software but for me this will greatly increase the way I color grade. Before this you had to just keep changing from one window to another and now you have the option to have multiple windows in multiple configurations. They have also added Masks so you can color grade specific areas that you want including third party plug ins, it also has a draw feature to make sure you get the precise area you want adjusted.
The other one that is pretty cool is they added built in 3D titles and 3D cinematic templates, now I'm not sure how often I will use them but it is always nice to have options built into the system. you can also easily open these titles in Motion and alter things like text tracking, multiple lights and cameras.
This update also brings more video format support including support for Red Raw footage. Other features are custom effect presets, library smart collections, single import window and many others. Click HERE for the details on FCPX, HERE for Motion details and finally HERE for the Compressor details.
